A Tough Go

trail
I heard about a guy who recently walked across the US. Something like Maine to California over several months and pairs of shoes. That’s a tough go.

Over the past few days I’ve been in Salt Lake City, UT, learning about the Young (my mom’s side) side of my family history and heritage. As it turns out, we are directly descended from Lorenzo Young, Brigham Young’s youngest brother.

At the “This is the Place” monument and the Latter Day Saints museum, I learned about how the people of the Mormon Church emigrated across the US fleeing religious persecution, mostly between 1840-1896.

These people pushed hand-carts, with their families and all their worldly possessions, 1,500 miles blazing a trail.

I can’t say for sure, but my guess is they weren’t wearing new Nike’s or dry-fit technology performance apparel, or cruising the I-80 for that matter.

Well, at any rate, not to take anything away from the guy who just walked from Maine to California, but that sounds like a walk in the park compared to what people did years ago.

Now think about traveling around the world. I’ve got it easy, comparatively speaking.

What is the longest you’ve ever walked or traveled?
